The Drew Freeman Middle School was a 30 year old 140,000 square foot school with an aging HVAC plant and only partially air conditioned. WAI designed a renovation which completely air conditioned the school, replacing most of the HVAC plant. WAI utilized a 2,700 ton-hour ice storage system to air condition the project. This new HVAC system was both more efficient than a conventional HVAC system and was $12,000 less expensive to install. Other significant scope items include: a complete lighting retrofit with high efficiency fixtures, an electrical heavy-up, complete replacement of the fire alarm system, up-grading the public address and central clock system, installation of cable/closed circuit TV, addition of a facility wide LAN, boiler replacement (with dual fuel), fuel oil tank and system replacement, and the management of over $250,000 of utility company rebates.
A project of this size and nature typically takes eight months to design. WAI completed the design in only three months. |
